CUSAT- AN ABODE OF SCIENTIFIC EXCELLENCE?!!

Due to the continuous tension between the student community and the Cochin University authorities, for the last three weeks, all academic activities were being suspended. Registrar had issued an order suspending all UG/PG/Research activities in all departments! What a shame! But for my readers’ information, let me say sadly that this was not my CUSAT when I joined in this University as an MSc Marine Biology student, in the year 1996.

Even though our classes were being conducted at Lakeshore campus, we used to stay at Thrikkakara campus hostel Siberia. In those days we never used to have unnecessary student strikes and boycotting classes.

I personally feel that half the problems which are currently pulling CUSAT’s leg will be going off if once the authorities try to settle the issues of Undergraduate students. A move to give separate hostel/wing to Research scholars is warmly being welcomed. I am personally thanking Dr. M.Chandrasekaran for painstakingly re-allotting the hostel rooms. Thanks are being extended to University authorities also for giving him all support to do this job.

Anyway, suspension of all academic activities send out a very wrong message to our esteemed funding agencies like DST, CSIR, DBT, ICMR, etc. Hence it is high time that we should restart all our pending academic activities and should prove our scientific calibre in terms of publications and patents.
Hope authorities are moving this direction. Let us hope for the best to happen to our dear University.
